Do you know how many times my couples tell me that the custom timeline I made for them was a lifesaver? Unless you’re in the business, most people haven’t experienced the ins and outs of planning before their own wedding day.

And that’s okay! You don’t need to be a wedding expert to plan a dope party if you hire vendors you trust.

Here are some tips for creating your wedding day timeline:

Allow extra time for each part of the day. If you need to be getting dressed by 1:30pm, communicate to hair and makeup that you need to be finished by 1pm. This gives an extra 30 minutes if things are running behind.

Don’t forget to account for travel time! If it takes 15 minutes to drive from your ceremony venue to the reception, plan for 10 extra minutes for loading up, parking and traffic.

Allot time for hanging with your guests. Whether it’s a receiving line after your ceremony where you quickly greet everyone in attendance or mingling for 15 minutes during cocktail hour, make sure that it’s built into your timeline. The day goes by so fast so setting your intentions with your vendors before the timeline is completed is key.

Make time to sneak away with your partner at some point in the evening! The whole day is very overwhelming and it’s really hard to take everything in when you’re constantly being pulled in a million directions. Plan for a quick 15-20 minute break. It doesn’t hurt to have me tag along with my camera, too ;) Sunset photos are ALWAYS in style!

Plan your day, but be flexible. On your wedding day, things happen beyond your control. It’s important to go with the flow when that happens! Remember, at the end of the day, you’re still marrying your life partner. The rest is just an added bonus ;)
