70s Inspired Editorial Photoshoot | Sarah of Thirty Four and Vine | The Suite on Federal | Youngstown, Ohio
While winter blues are real, the desire to create as a photographer hits especially hard this time of year. Every January, I get filled with ideas and have the need to create work outside of my typical wedding work or family session. That spark, that fire and that need to feed my soul with SOME ounce of creativity and color is where this photoshoot originated from. Pair that with spontaneous brainstorming alongside my friend Sarah and we got some pretty dope photos out of it.
You may recognize Sarah from Thirty Four and Vine. Not only does she have the cutest online boutique and a funky sense of style, but she also brings incredible designs and bouquets to life as a florist. I can’t say enough great things about this woman, seriously! If you’re planning a wedding or need florals for anything, holla atcha girl because she’s the real deal. Back when I studied fine art photography at Youngstown State, I used to spend an absurd amount of hours in the studio, just creating. It’s one of the things I miss the most about college if I’m being honest. The ability to have a safe space to create something so openly and unapologetically with zero expectation is such a gift to be given and quite frankly, I don’t give myself that chance too often anymore.
For this editorial session, I booked an amazing studio in downtown Youngstown, Ohio called The Suite on Federal. This place is such a treasure! It was a great place for expression, experimentation and pushing my creative limits. We planned a 70s inspired wardrobe (aka everything that Sarah already has in her closet because she’s the coolest) and kept the hair and makeup very simple. Everything else was centered around a go with the flow attitude. It was a freeing day, full of creative energy and collaboration as the team worked together to bring our ideas to life.
